Radiation therapy could be used to treat heart failure: Study
Tuesday, 28 November 2023 Cardiologists and radiation oncologists at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have pioneered the use of low-dose radiation therapy to treat patients with ventricular tachycardia, a potentially fatal irregular heart rhythm. The therapy has been found to enhance heart function in various forms of heart failure by reducing inflammation in the heart muscle. This discovery offers potential for better therapies for the 6.2 million American adults currently living with heart failure. Further research is needed before testing this therapy in heart failure patients.
