Fossil fuel use, emissions hit records in 2023, report says

In 2023, global fossil fuel consumption and emissions reached record highs despite a slight decrease in their energy mix share. Renewables grew, particularly in China, but increasing fossil fuel use in developing regions like India and China drove overall emissions up 2%, surpassing 40 gigatonnes of CO₂.
