Mali and Burkina Faso threaten war over plans for military intervention in Niger
Tuesday, 1 August 2023 Mali and Burkina Faso have warned other West African nations that military intervention in Niger will be considered a declaration of warfare against them.
In a joint statement from the military governments of Mali and Burkina Faso, the two countries wrote that "any military intervention against Niger will be considered as a declaration of war against Burkina Faso and Mali.”
The US military is finalizing its withdrawal from Air Base 101 in Niger, with a farewell ceremony for the last C-17 Globemaster III transport aircraft scheduled soon.
