Russia strikes Ukraine grain exporting port ahead of Putin-Erdogan talks
Monday, 4 September 2023 Russia launched an overnight air attack on Ukraine's Izmail port, one of the country's major grain exporting ports. The attack occurred just hours before a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan. The air force of Ukraine urged residents to seek shelter after midnight. Russia had previously quit a grain export deal with Ukraine in July, citing obstacles to its own food and fertilizer exports.
