Italy's Lampedusa pleads for help after thousands of migrant arrivals

The mayor of Lampedusa, a small Italian island, has said that the island is being overwhelmed after thousands of migrants arrived on its shores. Over the past two days, around 7,000 people have landed on the island from North Africa. Lampedusa, which normally has a population of just over 6,000. The situation has reached a point of crisis.
