Iran’s Mahsa Amini Awarded EU's Top Human Rights Prize

Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish-Iranian woman who died in police custody in Iran, has been posthumously awarded the European Union's Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought. Amini's death, following her arrest for violating Iran's headscarf law, sparked protests and calls for the overthrow of the country's Islamic theocracy. The award ceremony is scheduled for December 13. Other finalists included figures fighting for human rights in Nicaragua and women advocating for abortion rights.
