Thursday, 26 October 2023 Hedge fund billionaire Leon Cooperman has criticized pro-Palestinian student protests at Columbia University and vowed to stop donating to the university. Cooperman defended Israel as an ally, democracy, and tolerant economy and called the protesters "s–t for brains." He demanded that the university administration condemn a professor's comments on Hamas attacks and fire him. A petition accusing the university of supporting terrorism gathered 60,000 signatures, while a letter of support for the professor garnered thousands of signatures.
