Sri Lanka supreme court holds Rajapaksa brothers and top officials responsible for worst economic crisis
Tuesday, 14 November 2023 Sri Lanka's top court has ruled that former president Gotabaya Rajapaksa, ex-prime minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, and other senior officials violated the fundamental rights of the people by mishandling the economy and causing an unprecedented economic crisis. The court found them responsible for economic mismanagement between 2019-2022, including granting tax concessions and making poor financial decisions. The court ordered the respondents to pay legal costs to the petitioners.
