Meta faces lawsuit from Spanish media over advertising practices

IndiaTimes Monday, 4 December 2023
A group representing 83 Spanish media outlets, known as the AMI media association, has filed a 550 million euro lawsuit against Meta Platforms, the owner of Facebook. The lawsuit alleges unfair competition in the advertising market and violation of EU data protection rules by Meta. The media outlets claim that Meta's use of personal data from its platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp, gives it an unfair advantage in designing personalized ads. This lawsuit could have implications for other EU countries facing similar violations.
