US Red Sea taskforce gets limited backing from some allies

IndiaTimes Friday, 22 December 2023
The United States is forming a multinational naval coalition, Operation Prosperity Guardian, to protect Red Sea commercial traffic from Yemen's Houthi movement. More than 20 countries, including Britain, Canada, France, Italy, and Spain, have joined the coalition. However, some countries will contribute to existing naval agreements instead. The lack of clarity has led shipping companies to reroute vessels. The coalition is in addition to existing naval coalitions like Operation Atalanta and Operation Agenor, which protect shipping lanes and ensure freedom of navigation in the region.
