UNSC OKs toned-down Gaza aid resolution, US abstains
Saturday, 23 December 2023 The UN Security Council adopted a resolution calling for increased aid to civilians in Gaza. The resolution, put forward by the UAE, calls for unhindered humanitarian access and the creation of conditions for a sustainable cessation of hostilities. The US and Russia abstained from the vote. The US had previously vetoed two resolutions for a ceasefire. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the US ambassador to the UN, expressed disappointment that the resolution did not condemn Hamas's terrorist attack on Israel.
