Israeli soldiers ignored cries for help when they stormed a Gaza building holding three hostages, killing them by mistake. A military investigation revealed that the soldiers believed the building was rigged with explosives and killed five Hamas militants trying to escape. The hostages, who were shirtless and one carrying a white flag, were shot on December 15 after being mistaken for a threat. The investigation also mentioned the failed mission to rescue the hostages and the protests in Tel Aviv demanding a new plan to bring home the remaining 129 hostages held in the Gaza Strip.
