Democratic Republic of Congo rules out election re-run as observers flag irregularities

The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo refuses opposition calls for a re-run of disputed elections despite numerous irregularities reported by the main observer mission. Provisional results show President Felix Tshisekedi with a commanding lead. Security crisis in eastern areas further destabilizes the country. The independent joint vote-monitoring mission of Congo's Catholic Church and Protestant Church questions the legality of the CENI election commission's decision to extend voting. Opposition leader Moise Katumbi rules out using legal channels and calls for a re-run. The CENI is urged to publish results based on correctly consolidated tallies from local centres.
