Sweden finally in Nato, ends decades of neutrality
Thursday, 7 March 2024 Sweden officially became a member of Nato, marking a significant shift in its national security stance. This decision came two years after the invasion of Ukraine by Russia compelled Sweden to reassess its security policies, ultimately determining that aligning with the alliance was the most effective means to ensure the country's safety. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson completed the final step of this prolonged process by submitting the necessary documentation to the US government, solidifying support from all Nato members for Sweden's inclusion in the military alliance.
