Simon Harris became Ireland's prime minister in waiting on Sunday, as nominations concluded for the leadership of the governing Fine Gael party without any other candidate publicly declaring their intention to succeed Leo Varadkar. Harris, a 37-year-old minister best known for helping steer the country's initial response to COVID-19 will be declared the new leader of the centre-right party.
