Haiti's Prime Minister Garry Conille survived an assassination attempt on July 29 when gangs opened fire near a hospital he was visiting in Port-au-Prince. The incident occurred during Conille's surprise inspection of the General Hospital, recently reclaimed from gang control. Escorted by Haitian police and UN-backed Kenyan forces, Conille escaped unharmed. This attack highlights the ongoing security crisis in Haiti's capital, where gangs control about 80% of the area, posing constant threats to residents and government officials alike.
