Indonesia flood death toll rises to 50 with 27 missing: disaster agency
Tuesday, 14 May 2024 The death toll from flash floods and cold lava flow in Jakarta, Indonesia, has reached 50, with 27 individuals still missing. The disaster, caused by a volcano in western Indonesia, has also left 37 injured and 3,396 people evacuated. Heavy rain led to flooding in two districts on Sumatra island, carrying ash and rocks from Mount Marapi.
The death toll from weekend flash floods and mud slides in Indonesia's West Sumatra province rose to at least 62 on Wednesday, authorities said, while rescuers were searching areas near rivers for more people who are still missing. Alice Rizzo has more.
