'Far-right seen winning 34% of vote in round 1 of France polls'

IndiaTimes Sunday, 30 June 2024 ()
Marine Le Pen's National Rally (RN) led the first round of France's parliamentary elections with about 34% of the vote. President Macron's Together alliance secured 20.5%-23%, while the New Popular Front got around 29%. The final outcome hinges on next week's run-off and political alliances in France's 577 constituencies. Voter turnout was nearly 60%. Le Pen seeks an RN majority to form a government, while Macron urges voters to prevent the far-right from taking office.
