Italian painting once found on bus stop sells for record $22.3 million

Italian Renaissance master Titian's painting, "The Rest on the Flight into Egypt," found in a London bus stop, sold for $22.3 million at Christie’s, surpassing estimates. Depicting Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, the compact masterpiece measures 18.25 x 24.75 inches. Stolen by Napoleonic troops in 1809, it resurfaced after being stolen in 1995. Christie's UK Chairman praised its enduring allure and historical significance.
