27 dead, 15 missing as Indonesia ends landslide search
Saturday, 13 July 2024 Indonesian rescuers halted their search after heavy rain in Sulawesi's Bone Balango caused a landslide near an illegal gold mine, killing 27 and leaving 15 missing. Weather and damaged bridges hampered efforts led by Heriyanto. Consulted families included missing miners and stall operators. Hundreds of police and soldiers participated in the search.
As Indonesian rescuers near the end of their search and rescue operation following a landslide on 6 July, more than a dozen people remain missing and at least 27 have died. The landslide hit a remote village in Bone Balango district, on the central island of Sulawesi, following heavy rain.
