US says Thai party dissolution jeopardizes democracy
Wednesday, 7 August 2024 The United States on Wednesday criticized a Thai court's dissolution of the main opposition party, saying it ran against democracy in the longtime US ally. The State Department said it was "deeply concerned" by the decision on the Move Forward Party which "disenfranchises the more than 14 million Thais" who voted for it.
On Wednesday, (August 7) Thailand's Constitutional Court ordered the dissolution of the anti-establishment party Move Forward, stating that its campaign to revise the law protecting the monarchy from criticism threatened the democratic system. Alice Rizzo reports.
