Putin brings in his ex-bodyguard to counter Ukrainian incursion
Wednesday, 14 August 2024 () President Putin appointed Alexey Dyumin, a trusted aide and former bodyguard, to oversee military and civilian operations in Russia’s Kursk region amid Ukraine’s incursion. Dyumin, recently named secretary of the State Council, is tasked with reporting back to Putin while reinforcements are sent to address the conflict. Ukraine’s incursion in Kursk is the biggest assault within Russia since 2022.
