The terrifying risks Indians are taking to reach the US illegally
Monday, 2 September 2024 Indian families have reportedly frozen to death, drowned and been kidnapped by their smugglers as they tried to reach the US - and the number of those willing to risk their lives in their desperate quest is growing.
India has responded after a viral video showed US deportees, including Indians, crying for help from a hotel in Panama where they are being held. The Indian embassy in Panama confirmed that the migrants are safe, have access to basic amenities, and are under consular support. The deportees were sent to Panama as part of the US immigration crackdown, with onward repatriation being coordinated. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story.
