The BNP and Jamaat oppose banning the Awami League, despite being targeted by them previously. They prefer electoral defeat over bans. The interim government led by Muhammad Yunus is preparing for new elections after Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India amid prolonged protests over government job quotas.
