Pakistan army chief General Asim Munir has admitted his military's direct involvement in the 1999 Kargil War against India, ending a long-standing claim that only indigenous Kashmiri rebels fought. He honoured Pakistani soldiers killed in the conflict and acknowledged their sacrifices in previous wars for the country and Islam.
