Shanghai slammed by strongest typhoon to hit city since 1949

Typhoon Bebinca hit Shanghai with gale-force winds and heavy rain, disrupting travel plans at the start of a national festival. Flights and high-speed rail services were canceled as the city initiated top-level emergency responses. The storm is expected to weaken while moving inland through Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces. Hundreds of thousands of people in Shanghai and other coastal cities were evacuated.
