Rescuers end search for survivors after 14 die in canopy collapse in northern Serbia
Saturday, 2 November 2024 () Serbian rescuers have ceased their search after recovering 14 bodies from a collapsed canopy at Novi Sad railway station, where the tragedy also left three people seriously injured. The government has called for a day of mourning and a thorough investigation, amidst criticism over possible corruption and shoddy renovations. Residents have held a vigil for the victims.
The concrete canopy that ran along the front of the railway station in the northern city of Novi Sad collapsed suddenly on Friday, landing on people who were sitting on benches or passing through the building’s entrance.
