EU fines Meta nearly €800 million for 'abusive' practices benefiting Facebook marketplace

IndiaTimes Thursday, 14 November 2024 ()
The European Commission has slapped Meta with a hefty €797.72 million fine for allegedly giving Facebook Marketplace an unfair advantage. Regulators claim Meta forced the service on users and leveraged data from advertisers to stifle competition. Meta denies any wrongdoing, arguing that users aren't forced to use Marketplace and that its success stems from meeting consumer demand.
