Sexual violence against children soars in Haiti: UN

IndiaTimes Friday, 7 February 2025
Unicef has reported a staggering tenfold increase in sexual violence against children in Haiti, as armed gangs controlling 85 per cent of Port-au-Prince escalate their recruitment of minors, some as young as eight. More than 1.2 million children face constant threats, with child recruitment into armed groups surging by 70 per cent last year. Haiti's worsening instability, lack of governance, and extreme violence have forced over a million people from their homes, fueling a dire humanitarian crisis.
