Jailed Kurdish leader urges group to disarm as part of Turkey peace bid
Thursday, 27 February 2025 () Jailed Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan has called on his militant group to disarm as part of a fresh bid to end a decades-long conflict with the Turkish state.
Fierce clashes continue in northern Syria between U.S.-backed Kurdish forces (SDF) and Turkish-backed groups, resulting in around 40 deaths. Despite U.S. efforts to ease tensions, Turkey views the YPG as a PKK-linked terrorist group. The conflict has worsened with foreign militants like HTS involved, and Turkey threatens further action.
