Senator kirsten gillibrand visiting the erie canal museum in syracuse today -- where she called in the senate to reject president trump's cuts to the national endowment for the arts and the humanities.
Under the president's proposal -- both institutions would see their funding completely evaporate.
Places like the erie canal museum receive funding from the national endowment for the arts and would not be able to put on exhibits for the central new york community without it.
Gillibrand: these cuts would be devastating.
Here in new york we have museums in every corner of our state even in the most remote, rural, underserved areas but we know that not every museum has the resources they need to put on exhibits for their communities.
Jeff: last year alone state institutions received 538 grants from the arts endowment -- totalling more than 17 million dollars.
