Heavy Rains Bring Relief And Flooding To Australia
Australia’s fire-stricken state of Queensland saw heavy rainfalls on Sunday.
The precipitation dampened some of the fires that have razed 2.5 million hectares of land since September.
The much-needed rain brought some relief, but the wet weather also caused major flooding in areas.
Some areas received a quarter of the annual average rainfall, according to Reuters.
The state’s Bureau of Meteorology reported that coastal areas experienced up to 6.3 inches of rain in 24-hours.
Several people had to be rescued from floodwaters and some bridges and causeways were closed.
No major damage has been reported.
