Risk.

Hospitals across the country are prepping for the corona virus..

That includes local hospitals here in the state like north mississippi medical center..but after speaking with retired rear admiral pamela schwietizer...mis sissippians may not have much to worry about...right now..

To worry about."

((pkg)) "right now for mississippian's it's a low risk."

Former assistant surgeon general pamela schwietizer is giving mississippians a little relief by saying the state is not at a high risk for the corona virus outbreak... at this point.

However with the closest confirmed cases being in illinois according to the cdc... local hospitals are getting prepared... so how can you protect yourself?

According to admiral schwietizer who spoke at ole miss today there are steps you need to take..

One... she advises for anyone who has not gotten the flu shot to do so.

Two... wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds when you're out and about in public..

Three... know symptoms which are very similar to a common cold..

And finally she says if you're sick stay home and away from groups of people... but she assures everyone that the u.s. is well prepared to handle the virus..

"absolutely i had a whole career in the federal government and i can tell you there are a lot of people right now that are working together and i am very confident in our government."

But she says the greatest risk for mississippians is traveling.

"so if they're not traveling right now they shouldn't have anything to worry about."

Now if you have traveled and show symptoms north mississippi medical center and other local clinics ask you not to come to the facility but to instead call the number at the bottom of your screen... reporting live in tupelo erin wilson wtva news..
