Cyclone Nisarga: NDRF leads evacuation in Maharashtra and Gujarat

Evacuation by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams is underway in coastal areas of Maharashtra and Gujarat in view of Cyclone 'Nisarga'.

In Maharashtra's Palghar, NDRF is evacuating people from coastal areas of about 13 villages.

NDRF's Inspector, Shiv Prasad Rao said, "We'll be evacuating people from coastal areas of about 13 villages." The cyclone has brought up double challenge for NDRF as they also have to maintain the precautionary measures to avoid the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

An NDRF official said, "We are prepared to carry out the operation while following social distancing norms." Meanwhile in Gujarat, NDRF and police evacuated people from Mendhar and Bhat villages.
