Rescuers discover two-headed viper in western India

Wildlife rescuers were amazed to discover a two-headed Russell's viper in the Indian state of Maharashtra on Thursday (August 6th).

Locals from Kalyan in Thane district called the experts after spotting the deadly snake close to a residential area.

Two officers from the Wildlife Animal Reptile Rescue Foundation arrived at the scene and were stunned to see the venomous creature had two heads.

The snake was handed over to the forest department who were due to transfer the reptile to the Haffkine Institute in Parel where it would be investigated further.

The growth of two heads is presumed to be the result of a genetic abnormality and, according to experts, the animal would have a very low chance of survival in the wild.
