Study: Elderly Diabetic Americans At Far Greater Risk For Pancreatic Cancer Than Everyone Else

A new analysis reveals older adults with diabetes are nearly three times as likely to develop pancreatic cancer than the general population.

And according to UPI, the link between diabetes and pancreatic cancer increases to seven-fold for people with the relatively rare Type 3C diabetes.

According to UPI, Type 3C diabetes is caused by pancreatitis, or inflammation of the pancreas.

The findings highlight the link between the two chronic diseases.

The CDC estimates that roughly 35 million Americans have some form of diabetes.

Researchers say the findings also suggest the development of diabetes could be an early precursor to a cancer diagnosis.
