First Douglas County school reopens for in-person classes

The first week back for students at days creek charter school in douglas county& and teachers say so far it going smoothly.

Just a few weeks ago, the state released new guidelines that made it easier for rural schools to reopen.

Days creek is one of the schools that qualified& and teacher matt giles says they scrambled to get the building ready for the studentslong- awaited return.?we had to create social distancing between your students and the spacing of the desks and how many students in a classroom?

00:36 evita:?before the school year started, giles says the staff were concerned the kids would have a hard time wearing masks at school.

Three days in& he says it been going a lot smoother than they thought?

Superintendent steve woods says he impressed with how fast the kids are adapting to the changes.

I think it kind of a fashion statement for these kids.

For the rest of the week, theyl bring students back on a rolling start?

That means each grade will come back one by one& and they started with kindergarten and first grade on monday.

Woods says theye prepared to go back to distance learning& if the state guidelines change.

But giles is confident that won happen.?it just easier face to face to have them back in the classroom& so you can build that bond and relationship?

&and hopefully give them some normalcy during this difficult time.
