Today was the second of 5 flu shot clinics hosted by the madison county health department!

It was held at the monrovia community center today from 9 to 2.

The clinics are happening every wednesday through october - so you still have the chance to get vaccinated!

Waay 31's - bridget divers - talked to people at today's clinic - about why they're making sure they're protected from the flu this year.

Sheritha pride/ nurse "at the flu clinic we are administering vaccines today for flu for children, state employees and just the general public."

Nurse sheritha pride says its more important than ever this year to get a flu vaccine.

Sheritha pride/ nurse "well each year like the hospitals and health care alone see an influx during flu season and now with the pandemic in the mix, we don't want to overburden the hospitals and health care system as a whole."

Travis baker and lizzie holder came to get their flu shots wednesday.

They hope other people do the same this flu season.

Travis baker/ particpant "everybody should get vaccinated."

Lizzie holden/ participant "well we're all living in a new age you know and precautions, just to take every precaution necessary."

And pride told me all coronavirus precautions were taken today.

Sheritha pride/ nurse "we are practicing social distancing as well as requiring masks to enter the building."

The health department is able to vaccinate more than 150 people a day at each wednesday clinic.

Holden said this is one place she's glad to see a lot of people.

Lizzie holden/ participant "well i see a nice crowd you know everyone is concerned."

It only takes a few minutes.

Travis baker/ particpant "i came in, i filled out the paperwork, turned it in and i was in in maybe three minutes."

And costs zero dollars.

Sheritha pride/ nurse "insurance no insurance please come."

While the vaccination is free - you're asked to bring your health insurance card if you have one.

If you missed today's clinic - you still have time.

Over the next three weeks there will be three more free clinics
