Child abuse cases on the riseChild abuse cases on the rise, advocates weigh-in on the reason for the uptick.

Child abuse is rising in vigo county..

Experts say..

We're seeing more cases... as kids leave their homes..

And head back to the classroom.

News 10's jordan kudisch has followed the numbers for months.

New for you this morning... she's in our newsroom with an update on what she's seeing.

Jon..

Alia.

During the pandemic we've been told to stay home..

It's safe..

Stay home.

That may be the case for lowering the spread of the virus..

But experts say that's not the case when it comes to child abuse.

I spoke with "emily perry" at susie's place.

Perry says abuse is more likely to happen at home..

By the hands of a family member.

While reports for child abuse were lower in the past few months..

That doesn't mean something isn't going on "behind" closed doors.

Perry says"now"..

Is the time to reach out and be voice for those who can't have their own.

"just like we talk about other parts of our kids day and lives we want to be talking to them about safety we want to talk about if something doesn't feel right it's probably not right and here's what you can do to get help if you need it."

If something feels off..

Be sure to report abuse.

Call the number on your screen..
