Orland school reopens despite Glenn being in purple tier

An elementary school in Orland is back in session today despite Glenn County being in the strictest coronavirus tier.

Glenn county is still in the purple tierãbut as action news now reporter kristian lopez shows us - some schools are welcoming students back to campus.

Joana castaneda/2nd grade teacher: our first day of school was pretty exciting the kids were happy to be here, you could see the joy on their faces.

Kristian (havent shot yet)ãmill street elementary second grade teacher, joana castaneda says monday was exciting but not without challenges.

Joana castaneda/2nd grade teacher: its challenging to keep reminding them why they need to stay apart.

Sean forrester/parent: everything went fine, really well, i think it's better for the teacher to be one on one rather than over the internet.

But not every parent feels the same.

Jacquelyn schanley/chose distance learning: i just think its difficult for kids to follow the guidelines, with the cdc guidelines, its more of a challenge for them.

Joana castaneda/2ndgrade teacher: we have all of the ppe we need, we are required to wear face shields and masks at all time, we santize consistently and keep cohorts apart and we are following all guidelines to keep children safe.

Kristian stand up: usually there are two students sitting at each one of these tables, but here you can see there are only two chairs in each corner to allow 6 feet between each student.

Kristian: (havent shot this yet) half the students will come to school monday and tuesday -the other half thursday and friday.

They will alternate on wednesdays.

About 30% of parents decided to send to continue with the distance learning, those students were reassigned new teachers this faces.
