Empty stations as China's Lunar New Year migration begins
At Beijing's railway station on Thursday, the annual migration of workers travelling home for Lunar New Year was off to a muted start with nary a suitcase in sight and various empty ticket booths due to the pandemic.
Taiwan detected 37 Chinese military aircraft, including fighter jets and drones, near its airspace, with 35 crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait. In response, Taiwan deployed aircraft, naval vessels, and shore-based missiles. The incident follows recent Chinese military drills and heightened defense patrols. China frames these maneuvers as defense measures, raising tensions as Beijing views Taiwan as a breakaway province, intensifying regional concerns over potential conflict.
