Heavy excavators were brought in to remove the debris and slush, to open the tunnel near the Tapovan dam in Chamoli.

Increased water in the local river has been hampering rescue efforts.

A glacier burst took place in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district on February 07.

So far, 16 people have been rescued while the disaster has claimed lives of at least 7 people.
