Tripura's student association held sit-in protest, demands inclusion of Kokborok language

The tribal youth of Agartala under the banner of All Tripura Indigenous Students Association (ATISA) launched a two-day sit-in demonstration on demand of inclusion of Kokborok language in the 8th Schedule of Indian Constitution with Roman script.

Kokborok language got its recognition as an official language in the year 1979 but is yet to get its script as a section of the Kokborok speaking people is in favour of Bengali, while the other favours Roman script.

The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) government made regulations in 1992 and 2000 for the adoption of the Roman script in the school education system in its areas.

The agitating youth gave the ultimatum to go for massive agitation if their demand is not fulfilled within the next seven days.
