Uttarakhand glacier burst: Rescue ops on war-footing by ITBP, NDRF and sister agencies
A joint team of ITBP, NDRF, SDRF and other sister agencies entered into the tunnel.
They removed the debris and slush from under the tunnel near Tapovan Dam in Chamoli following the glacier burst which led to heavy flooding in Dhauliganga and Rishiganga Rivers and also impacted Alaknanda River.
Drone camera is being used to see the feasibility to enter beyond the cleared site inside the tunnel.
Recent bypolls across seven Indian states resulted in significant gains for the opposition INDIA bloc, which won 10 out of 13 assembly seats. The Congress party secured victories in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, while the Trinamool Congress swept all four seats in West Bengal. The BJP won two seats, including one in Madhya Pradesh. A massive landslide today blocked the Badrinath National Highway in Uttarakhand's Chamoli, disrupting vehicular movement. A 30-second video shows a massive portion of a hill crumbling and falling on the road and large rocks blocking the route at Chungi Dhar in Joshimath. People could be heard screaming due to panic and running for their safety, the video shows. Many of them were also seen capturing the act on their phones. Hundreds of people and vehicles were stuck on both sides of the road due to the landslide. The Badrinath highway was blocked in the morning and the authorities were clearing the debris when the landslide occurred.
