Rescue ops halted in Chamoli after water level rises of Rishiganga River
Rescue operations in Chamoli district have been temporarily halted after water level of Rishiganga river rose.
JCB machines, and other rescue teams were seen exiting the tunnel in Joshimath.
Several disaster management agencies including NDRF, SDRF and even ITBP are on the ground to evacuate people who were swept after flash floods were triggered following a glacier burst in Chamoli.
Kumbh 2025: Preparations for the Kumbh Mela at Qila Ghat, near the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna, are in full swing. Authorities are reinforcing riverbanks with sandbagging to prevent erosion, ensuring safety for pilgrims. Police and NDRF teams are actively deployed to manage crowd control and emergencies, maintaining a strict vigil.
