Pangong Tso disengagement: Why China blinked after months of deadlock?
India and China have reached an agreement to disengage from the northern and southern banks of Pangong Lake in Eastern Ladakh.
This comes after a long standoff between the forces of the two countries at the LAC in Ladakh.
While many see this step as the beginning of a process that could lead to lasting calm in the borders, others have questioned whether India can trust China to live up to the agreement.
Meanwhile, the opposition has slammed the government and accused it of ceding territory to the Chinese.
So what does the disengagement at the LAC mean for India?

India has taken a tit-for-tat step in response to China by approving the renaming of 30 places in Tibet. This move is seen as a strong rebuttal to China's decision to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh. The renaming initiative by the Indian government comes in the wake of heightened tensions between India and China, particularly following the violent clash in the Pangong Tso area in eastern Ladakh on May 5, 2020. Since then, the two nations have engaged in 21 rounds of military talks to address the standoff but are yet to reach a comprehensive resolution.

Five soldiers of the Army are feared drowned after being swept away while crossing a river in a T-72 tank near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the Nyoma-Chushul area in Ladakh early Saturday, officials told PTI. According to the officials, the incident occurred near Mandir Morh, 148 kilometres from here, during an exercise around 1 am. The T-72 tank with five soldiers on board sank due to flash floods while they were crossing the river, the officials said.
