6 dead, 1 injured in quarry blast in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur

Around 6 people died and one injured in a quarry blast in Karnataka's Chikkaballapur district.

The incident took place in Hirenagavalli Village of Chikkaballapur last night.

Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Minister and District in-charge of Chikkaballapura, Dr K Sudhakar visited the spot and conducted a thorough probe on February 23.

Dr K Sudhakar, Chikkaballapura Dist in-charge, who visited the spot said, "Shocked by the incident.

These are illegally held explosives.

Strict action will be taken." Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai also visited the quarry blast site at Hirenagavalli Village.

A team of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) also investigated the blast site today.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted and paid his sincere condolences, "Pained by the loss of lives due to a mishap at Chikkaballapur in Karnataka.

Praying that the injured recover quickly." Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa said, "The death of 6 people near Hirenagavalli village, Chikkaballapur, due to a gelatin blast is shocking.

District in-charge minister and senior officials instructed to conduct a thorough probe and take stern action against the culprits." Karnataka Mines and Geology Minister Murugesh Nirani said, "Six people killed, one injured in quarry blast at Chikkaballapur.

The incident happened due to large amounts of explosives.

Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has visited the spot of the incident."
