Assam Assembly elections: Ex-CM Prafulla Mahanta among 4 sitting AGP MLAs denied ticket

Former chief minister and senior party leader Prafulla Kr Mahanta along with four incumbent Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) MLAs have been denied tickets to contest the upcoming Assam Assembly elections by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The BJP on Friday announced the names of 70 candidates for the first and second phases of the Assam Assembly elections.

Apart from Mahanta, the AGP, an alliance partner of the BJP, has decided not to give tickets to Lakhimpur MLA Utpal Dutta, Naharkatia MLA Naren Sonowal, and Kamalpur MLA Satyabrata Kalita.

Mahanta has been winning from Barhampur seat consecutively for six terms since 1985.
