Vote for govt which upholds principles of democracy: Manmohan Singh on Assam polls
Former prime minister and Congress leader Manmohan Singh highlighted the parameters for the voters to judge before casting vote in the upcoming state Assembly elections.
Manmohan Singh said, "You must vote for a government that upholds the constitution of India and principles of democracy, a government that will care for every citizen for every community.
You must vote for a government that will ensure growth, you must vote for a government that will put Assam once again on the path of peace and development."
In a strongly worded letter to Punjab voters, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using āhateful, unparliamentary terms to target either a specific section of society or the opposition.ā Singh's letter comes ahead of the seventh phase of the Lok Sabha polls scheduled for June 1, urging voters to protect democracy and the Constitution from what he describes as a despotic regime attempting to impose dictatorship in India. Singh criticised Modi for indulging in what he called the most vicious form of hate speeches, which he deemed purely divisive. He accused Modi of lowering the dignity of public discourse and the office of the prime minister.
