Taiwan prosecutors launch probe as train crash death toll rises to 50
Taiwanese authorities confirmed the death toll in the accident, which saw the driver and assistant driver killed and others crushed to death, had risen to 50.
Taiwan detected 37 Chinese military aircraft, including fighter jets and drones, near its airspace, with 35 crossing the median line of the Taiwan Strait. In response, Taiwan deployed aircraft, naval vessels, and shore-based missiles. The incident follows recent Chinese military drills and heightened defense patrols. China frames these maneuvers as defense measures, raising tensions as Beijing views Taiwan as a breakaway province, intensifying regional concerns over potential conflict.
